Flower’s Fragrance – How It Drives The Moods of People

By Kyle Webb

Long before the use of jewellery, women put on flowers to adorn themselves. For ages, people have used flowers with bright colours and fragrances to enhance their appeal. In most ancient civilizations, wearing flowers in the hair or on other body parts was considered an important aspect of self-adornment, and even men were known to practice this.

Every flower has its own unique scent. Humans have categorized flowers according to different feelings or states of mind and also to different events that the flowers best represent, and to a large extent this has been dependent on their scent and appearance. Perfume makers have extracted different floral fragrances and have trapped them in bottles for centuries, and the sheer diversity of these fragrances found in nature has aided them to create an endless variety of perfumes. But nowadays, artificial perfumes created from synthetic compounds are substituting the traditional perfumes that contained the purest fragrances of real flowers.

The fragrance of flowers is important not just because they can be trapped in perfume vials. In fact the whole charm of presenting flowers to people is based on their fragrance along with their appearance. The scent plays a crucial role in cheering a person up and transforming the whole ambience of a room. Bouquets that arouse feelings of joy and delight in recipients’ hearts are those that perfectly balance looks and scent. Similarly for any auspicious occasion, people use flowers extensively so that the venue gives a naturally pleasant fragrance.

However, researchers have always given lasting beauty of flowers precedence over their scent, and this prejudice in selection is now starting to display results. Recent advancements in bio engineering have sped up this quest for long lasting floral beauty at the expense of fragrance. For instance, carnations and roses that are available today are immaculate in looks and excellent in freshness, but excessive tampering with nature has stripped them of their fragile fragrance.

Hence, you have to be quite careful these days to make sure that the flowers you are purchasing are scented enough. Any kind of flowers or bouquets purchase for any occasion should be made in close consultation with a trustworthy and experienced florist who has the correct knowledge of flowers on his fingertips.

A reputed florist in Singapore with years of experience in the industry can be located either through the internet or by asking people about it. A florist, who is included in a branded flower selling chain, will also be trustworthy in most cases. Companies doing roaring business will never compromise on quality or service, and so it is a wise decision to approach them, especially if you are making a large quantity purchase.
