VoIP Plans Compared To Standard Phone Lines For A Business Or Residence

By Rorie K. Mangdonald

Many individuals are changing their phone services over to voice over IP, and VoIP plans are available for both residential and business purposes. An internet connection is used by voice over IP services to make and receive calls rather than traditional phone lines. This type of phone service is what many people and businesses are choosing due to its low cost, easy-to-use equipment and many calling features.

Many VoIP plans are a lot cheaper than those for traditional phones. These plans generally offer national and international long distance calling for a free or for a low price. Businesses may also be able to transport their toll-free numbers to the new service, and residents can keep their existing phone numbers if they wish. For optimal call quality a high speed internet connection is needed, so many companies will offer this with paid service or subscription. The price is cheaper overall because the plans have so many different features available.

The VoIP plans can usually work with the telephone equipment that is currently being utilized in a home or office. Individuals can use normal telephones to make and receive calls. Calls can be made as long as a high speed modem and internet connection is obtainable. New phone lines or multiple lines are not required for a business to handle all of their phones. All calls are transferred through the computer or system, so there is also no need for switchboard workers. These numbers can be moved and utilized in any place that provides a high speed internet connection.

Traditional phones and voice over IP phones have many of the same features available to them. Voicemail, caller ID, call waiting, and call forwarding are all options that are often included in the basic plans. Extensions, call transfers, and faxing are other features that these types of phones can handle. With respect to the plan that a person or company selects, more options may be available.

VoIP plans and services are being chosen over traditional phones because they are not as pricey and can be easier to use. Residential and business phone systems can both access the multitude of features such as caller ID, call waiting, and voicemail for one low price. These types of phone systems can also handle long distance calling, multiple lines and extensions, and faxing.
