Cellular Phone Reverse Search is Available to Anyone

By Duncan Millows

Looking for some fun? Whatever you do, Don't Click Here!

So you have just got to discover who owns that cell phone number. Perhaps somebody is irritating you by making prank calls. You could have seen this number in the phone address book of your spouse. Perhaps you have just come across a lost number in a drawer. You need to abate your curiosity and there could be a ton of reasons why. Lamentably, reverse look-up for cell phone numbers is a lot harder than with landline numbers. How is that? It is due to the fact that cell phone numbers are not found in phone books because of privacy concerns.

Think about how annnoying it would be if telemarkers were able to call your cell phone multiple times a day attempting to sell you things. If cell phone numbers were provided in public listings, this is precisely what would take place. In general, the fact that cell phone numbers aren’t public is most likely beneficial.

But let’s get back on track. How do you go about finding information on the number’s owner when it is not listed? You could certainly try a search engine, such as Google, search on the number and see what information, if any, is returned. But this probably will not be successful since most people do not put their cell phone numbers on public websites where they could be located by the search engines. You might just directly call the number and find out who answers. Maybe you would impersonate someone, saying that you are looking for their information to correct some records or something to that effect. This, however, is not a good idea. First, the owner of the number would now know that something is going on. Second, doing so could very well be illegal.

So, do we have a safe, legal, productive, and hopefully free method of searching for someone’s cell phone number? Happily, there is an answer to this question. While cell phone numbers are unlisted by phone books and public records, they are held by the phone companies within their internal databases. Obviously, you do not have access to these databases yourself. There are some companies that buy access to these databases from the cell phone providers and then compile the data into one big database consisting of current information on just about every cell phone number in the United States. You can then easily search this database to determine the owner of the cell phone number in which you are interested. While the access to such databases is not exactly free since the phone companies initially charge for this information and for reasons of privacy, the annual fee charged is nominal and you receive an unlimited number of searches.
