A Brief Glimpse At A Number Of The Newest IPod Accessories

By Brian Fuller

Because of the large popularity of Apple’s iPod, many manufacturers have been scrambling to offer a huge array of iPod accessory products ranging from wireless headphones to docking stations. I will review some of the most recent accessory products. I will also give some buying advice to help you choose the perfect product.

While most iPod users will listen to their tracks over headphones, loudspeakers are often preferred in indoor environments. iPod speakers with a built-in docking cradle are available in many different styles. Unfortunately, many of these speakers offer poor sound quality. The rated speaker output power of these iPod speakers is often rather limited.

Another option which offers better sound quality is using a pair of good-quality bookshelf speakers along with a miniature audio amplifier such as Amphony’s microFidelity amplifier. Another option are active speakers. Make sure, however, that the speaker amplifier is a high-quality amplifier with low audio distortion, high signal-to-noise ratio and power efficiency to achieve maximum sound quality.

To solve the problem of tangled headphone cords, the newest generation iPods and iPhones have built-in wireless capability. Bluetooth enabled iPods can stream audio to any wireless headphones or speakers which support the Bluetooth audio protocol.

For iPods without built-in wireless, wireless audio transmitters are available that connect to the iPod and send the audio to a remote receiver or headphones. Some of these transmitters can send to multiple headphones at the same time. iPods with built-in WiFi wireless can connect directly to your home wireless network to transfer songs between your iPod and PC rather than using a USB cable or docking station. Using iTunes software, you can access some functions remotely and change your settings similarly to having your iPod connected by USB cable.

Getting music for your iPod can be a hassle and expensive. As opposed to ripping CDs, more and more users are buying music online from stores such as iTunes or download songs from file sharing networks. Some vendors are offering more practical and hassle-free solutions for building an iPod music collection by recording online radio stations. Some of the most advanced software such as iGetMusic will not only generate properly cut songs which match songs ripped from a CD but also automatically add title, artist, music category and album information to each track and insert the album cover picture of each track. These tracks can then be imported into iTunes and transferred to an iPod.

You can get further information regarding iPod music recording software at Amphony’s website.
