Infallible USB Headset

By James Cameroone

I’ll be straight with you, I love the Pacific Digital USB headset. Everything from the comfortable earpieces to the noise-cancelling abilities, this headset is fantastic. The flexible microphone boom can be lowered or raised, according to whether you want to record/talk or simply listen. The headset works seamlessly with both Windows and Mac OS X machines, with no downloadable drivers required. Unfortunately, this can only be used with a computer and can’t be used as a headset for an iPod or stereo system. It can also be used for online multiplayer gaming as a communication device.

When I plug the headset into the computer, it almost immediately identifies the headset as a possible input/output device, although I had to manually change the previous settings to employ it. The mute button, located halfway down the cord, works immediately without any clicks, which is nice. It’s not always easy to tell whether the blinking red light means the mike is muted (it does) or whether it should be a steady red light.

Some of the features are: In-line volume and mute controls which instantly adjust headset volume or mute the microphone. There is a rotating, noise-canceling microphone efficiently reduces background chatter. Adjusting audio on the fly is easy with these features. It’s amazing to experience superior sound clarity with the simplicity of a single USB plug-and-play connection.

If its one thing they nailed at Pacific Digital , it’d be the sound quality. It is absolutely excellent. Obviously the source and medium can limit the quality. Just as important, the headset is extremely comfortable; I was able to wear it for hours without any fatigue or distress.

The wire leading from the headset to the mute button seems like it might be fragile, so people who walk around while wearing their headsets might encounter problems. All in all, the Pacific Digital USB headset is a fantastic buy.
