However, when it does not run properly, it gets your full attention. Some things can be remedied with proper computer maintenance. Here are tips that may help your computer run more smoothly.
It is very important that computers stay clean. Do you have a desktop computer? You should take the side panel off occasionally. When you do, you may notice a great deal of dust. This dust can affect the performance of your unit.
You have two cooling fans in the tower. Dust can completely clog them up. When this happens, heat will build up. This can destroy some of the components of your system. This area should be cleaned regularly.
These units can be vacuumed. It may be better to use air. Does your shop vacuum have a reverse option? This is a good thing to use on your tower. Blow all of the dust from it. Make sure that you clean the fans and fan motors. You might have to remove a fan guard or two. They will easily snap off and on. There are more things that you can do to keep your computer running smooth.
Be certain that you have good antivirus software on your computer. It should always be active. Many malicious programs can cause your computer to act odd. You can choose from a lot of different programs for virus protection. Some of them are freeware. There is no reason to not protect your computer from viruses. Set your antivirus software to periodically scan your computer. Some programs contain a firewall also. If your does not, get firewall software, too.
Scandisk and defragmenting
Scandisk is vital for checking for errors on your hard drive. It will find them and correct them. Defragment will find and delete unused sectors on your hard drive. These things will make your system faster and more efficient. Run these programs every month.
Keep a good spyware detection program running also. Look online for different programs. Some may be free. Even if you have to pay, it will be worth it. Spyware is everywhere. Some is not harmful. However, all spyware can slow your computer down.
It is important for you to utilize good computer maintenance at home and in the office. Keep your tower clean and free of dust. Blow it out occasionally and check the fans often. They must be clean and clear of dirt. Make sure that you have antivirus software running at all times. Run scandisk and defragment once a month. Install spyware protection software, also.
