Compare Cell Phones and Make an Informed Choice

By Larry Sanderson

A cell phone ceased to be a device for telephony and messaging alone so long ago. With new ideas being introduced to the market, a cellular device can do anything from taking decent pictures to being a full blown navigation device. So when you decide to go phone shopping, deciding what phone to go for will not exactly be an easy call to make. But if you compared cell phones, you would know which one meets your needs better.

You have to think about the kind of phone you want to buy- both inside and out. While the iPhone 4 seems to be the next best thing on the market right now, think about the other options that key market players have to offer. Capacitive screens are not only with Apple, as Omnias and Galaxies from Samsung pulling them off as well. And the smartphone business is one that Blackberry understands quite well.

Compare touchscreen cell phones with the good old hardware alphanumeric keypad companions. The world is obsessed with all things touch, so you would be forgiven for wanting in on the excitement as well. If your fingers arent exactly the slimmest around, compare phones that offer you a QWERTY in addition to a touchscreen, like the Milestone from Motorola. If not try seeing which serves you better- the onscreen keyboard on an iPhone 3GS, or the hardware keyboard on the Blackberry bold.

What exactly do you want from your phone? Compare different camera capabilities if the 12MP N8 from Nokia is too much, then the 5MP Galaxy from Samsung might suffice. Do you want a phone that has a serious side for business? Apple OS is good, but so are Blackberry OS, Android and Symbian. If you want a bigger side for entertainment, the Google Nexus will give you a slice of that too. If you are a sucker for browsing, then Nokia N900 will meet your internet needs.

Cell phone comparisons will help you know what kind of package your budget can get you. If your pockets are deep, then a $700 contract-free iPhone 4 will not hurt at all. But if you are the frugal kind, then your $300 should get you a nice Nokia, LG, Palm or Motorola phone with a long list of features.

Deciding which carrier to go with is where your decision will end. If you have nothing against signing a contract, then you get that much closer to getting the kind of phone you fancy. With the role a cell-phone plays these days, you need to make sure its the right one for you. And the only way to cross that bridge is by doing a cell phone comparison.
