Sending Texts From Your PC

By John D Oliver

Sending text messages from your computer can be very easy. Here are some instructions for how to send SMS messages from your PC. There are two main ways of doing this, either from your mobile phone, or using a website that provides the service.

The first way of sending text messages from a computer is to connect it directly to your mobile phone, using a USB cable, which is a cable that one side clips into your phone and the other goes straight into your PC using a long rectangular connector. To obtain the correct software that will work with your phone, either insert the disc that came when you bought the phone, or go to the website of the manufacturer and download it for free. You will need to search for ‘phone software’ or ‘PC suite’. Once you have installed the software, you should be able to follow easy instructions to be able to send messages as well as being able to manage photos and other files stored on your phone.

Alternatively, you could find a website that allows you to send SMS messages directly from your computer. Some websites will ask you to purchase credits to use towards sending messages, but they may also offer a free trial period. Other sites will be completely free, but may have lots of advertising or require you to sign up to a newsletter. There are even sites that will accept replies to your messages, almost like email.

For business users, there are some excellent benefits of using online SMS services. You can send up to 100 or more text messages at any one time, which is great for marketing. These sites also send messages worldwide, which means you don’t pay for expensive roaming charges through your mobile phone provider. This is especially handy when on holiday or if you want to stay in contact with family or friends in another country.

When using a mobile phone to send text messages, it can take a while to send more than one at a time. Whereas, using an online service is much quicker, as the connection will be much faster. Thinking about business or marketing purposes again, this can save a great deal of time.

A lot of online SMS services will offer other services as well. For example, you should be able to send MMS or picture messages using files saved to your computer. This will save time transferring pictures from your PC to your phone and may also save money. You might even be able to send other file formats such as music.

If you are fond of keeping a record of your sent messages, this is not always possible using an online service, and although most guarantee privacy, it can be easy to hack into your account (for people who know how!). On the subject of privacy, you can sometimes end SMS messages anonymously from websites, which may be useful for certain situations. Also, when sending a message from a PC, it will often add its own signature telling the receiver that the message was sent from a website, along with possibly some contact details.

There are many benefits of using online SMS sending services. Try putting ‘text messages’ or ‘free SMS sending’ into a good search engine. This should bring up a listed of trusted sites you can use.
