Google Now on Apple’s Turf to Challenge Siri

By Prince Sinha

Google Now is a comprehensive user-related personal assistance service akin to Apple’s SIRI. What that means is that the Now can pull up significant details from your Gmail account like your e-ticket for flight check-in, free coupons that pop up on Google Maps when you drive by that relevant location and much more. It’s a personal assistant that delivers relevant information based on a person’s habits, city, work schedules and the like. Unlike SIRI, Google Now isn’t a virtual character with a personality; it’s more of a service driven by the user’s real time requirements.

Now is available for download on iOS for the iPhone and Google is serious about challenging Apple in its own turf. While some UI functions are tweaked for the iOS, the usable features of the Now app remain very much similar to the Android version. Apple is rumored to be working on its flagship app, SIRI, to make it more appealing than the current avatar. Perhaps Google is trying to beat Apple at its own game, we don’t know yet; but at the end of the day, it’s the customer who gets to win both ways.

Google Now is a clear instance of presenting an existing idea with an all new approach, albeit with better features and improvisation. In this fiercely contested spectrum, a wonderful idea needs an equally skilled and passionate team of mobile app developers to take that idea and appify it.
