Rogue Build – An Assortment Of Talents To Choose From

By Jakobe G. Reichard

The foundation of any Rogue build lie in the 3 different talent trees of the class.

Combat Whereas Assassination and Subtlety improves the Rogue’s burst damage, the Combat tree allows for enhancements on sustained DPS. Rather than waiting in the dark and attacking with surprise moves like other talent trees, the Combat Rogues can simply wade into the thick of battle and hack their enemies away in quick combo attacks. Because of this and other talents, most players choose this tree for leveling their characters.

Assassination The Rogue’s finishing moves are the trademarks of this talent tree alongside solid burst damage and critical hits. If you’re going deep into Assassination, you’re likely to end up spending at least 41 talent points to go as deep as Mutilate, which is quite likely the best rogue talent there is.

Although very lethal, the Mutilate remains to be a very demanding talents. It deals a significantly higher damage than Backstab, which by itself is a very impressive damage dealer, and works more effectively on poisoned targets. Combined with other talents and you can instantly kill even the most protected class in one swift move. Not only that, this talent also stacks up on combo points and enhances the chances of your daggers to hit critical. And it only gets better as you go as far as the final tier of the Assassination tree.

In many builds specializing in Mutilate, poisons become a crucial consideration. If you don’t care much about poisons, any build based on this tree may not be to your taste. Otherwise, you can go deeper into the tree to get the Improved Poison.

Subtlety The name of the game for Subtlety Rogues is sneaking from behind and killing their foes before they even know it. If you’re the type of player who likes wading into the battle and screaming, ‘For the Horde!’, this tree isn’t for you. This is for those players who prefer hiding in the shadows and waiting for the right moment before kicking off a killing spree. You may, in fact, call this the assassin’s tree if there weren’t the Assassination talent tree in the first place.

The Assassination tree mostly focuses on moving fast and staying hidden. With the right openings come the insane number of combo points that can blow the mind of any non-Rogue players with their sheer number. And if everything don’t work according to the plan, this tree also provides a few face-saving strategies.

Because of talents like Initiative, Serrated Blade, Premeditation, Shadowstep and Deadliness, this is quite easily the best tree for PvPing. This is also the tree that may be useful for players gearing for the battlegrounds. The addition of Honor Among Thieves makes this tree the best choice for questing in dungeons as well as end-game raids.

You see, the class is synonymous to ‘Corpse Camping’. With the selection of lethal talents available to any Rogue build, Rogues are quite easily a force to reckon with in any killing field. Be it leveling, melee, PvE or PvP.

The best part of being a Rogue is its versatility. It can switch between PvE to PvP to leveling without a need to change play style, gears, weapons, or Rogue build for that matter unlike so many other classes.
