Copy Wii Games: The (In)Complete Guide

By Rob Mountney

Looking for some fun? Whatever you do, Don't Click Here!

When I hear of my readers having to spend money on replacing Wii games that they’ve already purchase, I cringe. That’s why I wrote this guide for you today on the topic of how to copy Wii games. I hope you dig it!

Now, in years past, you needed to install a mod chip to be able to enjoy copied games. We had written about mod chips previously, in this article. Essentially, a mod chip is a special type of computer chip you need to install inside your Wii gaming console. This involves cracking open the Nintendo wii, which voids your warrantee.

There’s now a better way to go about this, though. Instead of installing a mod chip, you can simply fool your Wii into thinking that it’s playing an original, rather than a copied, game. The process works like this – you use game copy software to make a clone of the original, preserving the file system and proprietary information from the original. And then the Wii will play it with no mods or hacks required.

But, before I ramble on and on, let’s get into the guide:

First:

Purchase a copy of the game copying software. You can find it at many online vendors. Save the file, ending in .exe, to your PC in a place that you’ll remember. You can use the same file for either PC or Mac with no compatibility issues whatsoever.

Second:

Double-click the file ending in .exe that you downloaded in the previous step. It will open up a welcome screen giving you some information about the installation process and about the program itself. Click “Start Installation”. Every few minutes, it will stop and ask you to confirm some settings. The default settings are ideal for game copying, so whenever this happens, just click “Next”. When it’s done, it will display a screen saying so.

STEP 3

Decide which game you want to burn first. The game is smaller than a regular CD, but CD drives on PCs are capable of reading them. Insert the game into the center of the drive tray.

Step Four:

Did the install finish? Great! Reboot your PC, and then when your operating system (Windows or Mac OS) reloads, double click the shortcut for the game clone app that you just installed to start it up.

STEP 5

Now, we come to the first technical part of this operation. You need to “rip” the game disc. Don’t worry, it’s not as destructive as it sounds! This simply means that you will copy an exact clone of all of the files on the disc to your PC’s desktop. Within the game copy utility, choose “extract” and then drill down to where you want to extract it to – I recommend the desktop for ease of use. Hit “Start” and go grab a soda. This could take a few minutes.

Sixth:

At this point the “rip” should have finished successfully. I recommend you to use the verify function in the game cloner to verify the .ISO file’s integrity, but this is not required. This next step is where we actually burn a copy of the game. So insert a blank disc into your Cd burner drive on your computer. Put the game copy software into burn mode, tell it to burn the .ISO file, and click “GO”.

Seventh:

After it completes, this app will play some fun tunes to let you know that it is done, and will report that it is finished. Excellent! Now you simply just remove the game, jot down a label on it with a sharpie pen, and you’re all set! Don’t forget to put your master copy of the game in a safe place, and also to be sure to play with your copied game!

Which means that you now needn’t be a computer hardware hacker or void the warranty in order to backup games as is your legitimate right. Simply just stick to these suggestions, and you’ll be all set!
