Why Shared Website Hosting Makes Sense

By Lela Perkins

Business owners are realizing the full benefits of having an internet presence. Most people are using the Internet to buy things, gather information, enlist services, etc. It would be a wise move, if a business hasn’t already; to migrate a substantial amount of their processes online via shared website hosting plans.

Webpages have become integrated in daily business routines. If a company wants to create a solid customer base, gain social capital, and increase their income, it can be done through utilizing webpages. There things to consider before choosing a host plan. There are numerous host plans available, but the most common plans are the dedicated or the shared servers.

A web host company is the foundation and home which business webpages are built. It is a virtual platform that presents information and options to its users. In order for a business to put out webpages, a web host service is required because they utilize servers that are interconnected globally to the World Wide Web.

A server is a machine, much like a computer, that hosts webpages while taking in user requests and providing information that is stored on its hard drives. It basically shows the pages that the user sees on internet, responds to the user’s requests, and hosts functional code that allows users to interact with webpages. Typically, a company will provide dedicated service that focuses all of the server’s data and functional capacity for one business, or it will provide a server that many businesses will use at the same time.

The only reason you would benefit from a dedicated server is if you are running an enterprise network. Dedicated servers let host a large amount of traffic without limitation. This is a good feature to have if you think your business will expand dramatically. Unlike sharing plans, a dedicated plan can use any operating system you need for programming your pages’ functions.

Sharing a server is ideal for small businesses, small organizations, and start up companies. If a business does not intend on traffic explosion, does not use complex programming, and does not foresee great expansion, then a dedicated server would be for naught. When business webpages are sharing a server, everything is partitioned proportionally and is distributed equally among the businesses.

Sharing a server would be efficient and more affordable, but a company has to use the operating system that which it is based. It distributes its resources equally, but there is only so much traffic that a company can receive without lag and load wait times. This is the ideal setup when a company wants to keep its overhead low and make efficient use of resources.

A shared website hosting plan is the best deal for companies that are less than enterprise sized. If a company does not need a lot of options, memory and space, dedicated servers would be a waste of money and an overabundance of resources. All in all, sharing plans are affordable can house more traffic than people may think. If a company is unfamiliar with how websites work, as well as aspiring professionals, they should go for the sharing plans.
