Internet dating is an excellent way to contact people and to learn something about them prior to investing time and energy in a relationship. Here are 4 reasons to give it a try.
1. Online dating is easy! If you’ve ever put in all the effort of getting dressed, going out, and getting hit on by losers at a bar, you know it can be extremely difficult to meet your dream partner. Internet dating services, however, take a lot of the stress and negativity out of finding dates and relationships.
It is also all up to you. There is no pressure to accept dates from people you don’t really have interest in. If you’ve endured a blind date or two, you know that it can be a pressure-filled, uncomfortable situation. With internet dating, it is completely up to you. Does this person sound interesting? Does he/she seem worth contacting? You decide.
It can be intimidating and even downright frightening to approach someone and ask him/her for a date. The internet gives you a great boost in confidence because it is easier to be yourself. It is easier to meet people online and get to know them because you have less fear of looking like a fool or being rejected.
2. You have access to more information. When you meet a stranger at a party or through a friend, you often don’t know much about him/her. With online dating, you have the opportunity to learn about potential matches before you even contact them.
When you use an online dating service, you have reviewed the other person’s profile before you even contact him or her. Most people are pretty truthful on their profiles (while putting their best feet forward, of course), so you have at least some basic information before you ever make contact with the person.
An example of how this can be helpful is if you are interested in long-term relationships and want children. If you read a profile for someone who didn’t want to get married and didn’t want to have kids, then you could just move on in your search. There is no need to waste time or energy on pursuing this relationship. You don’t often know these things up front in a traditional dating situation.
3. Safety. Despite worries about predators on the internet, it is quite safe as long as you use the necessary safeguards.
There are common sense safe internet practices that you ought to take, like not disclosing your name and address to anyone you don’t know.
Even though there are creeps and perverts on the internet, it is still at least as safe as traditional dating – probably safer. There are creeps and perverts in the real world, too.
To help keep you as safe as possible many internet dating services will not release any type of personal information without your consent. These and other safety measures are in place to ensure that you have positive dating experiences.
Don’t be afraid, also, to let your instincts guide you a bit. If you are screening potential matches and something doesn’t feel right, go with your feeling. It is better to be safe than polite. The profiles are there to give you a better understanding of the people on the site; use them and figure out who you feel comfortable connecting with.
You also have the advantage of being able to know something about people before you even contact them. Internet dating allows you to have much more control over who you contact and who you meet and invite into your life.
4. You are not bound by geography or connections. Traditionally, people find dates through friends and family, through work, church, or the bar scene. Your choices are limited according to these things. Online dating, however, opens up the possibilities immeasurably. There is also more to choose from!
Online dating allows you to meet people all over the world. You aren’t restricted to your own backyard anymore.
Internet dating has many advantages, and it is how a lot of people tend to make contact with new folks. Only you can determine whether the advantages over-shadow the disadvantages.
