A lot of people really like wild sea food that’s harvested from its natural environment, but were you aware a large percentage of sea food currently comes from massive farming activities? In aquaponic systems the nutrients are supplied by the seafood. They create ammonia when they breathe and whenever they excrete waste, this ammonia is converted by beneficial bacteria in to nutrients available to the algae plants. The solids are digested and filtered by the algae while efficiently cleansing the water.

So basically you have a closed loop method for sustaining your domesticated shrimp farms. Some farmers are going one step above that, by increasing the quantity of algae they produce within their algae raceway ponds, they can also create green energy using the algae plants they grow.

Algal biomass also produces algae biodiesel, to power internal combustion automobile engines.
