How Agriculture Grants Can Help Bring Products To Market

By Annie I. Lindsay

Before applying for a grant, one needs to understand the basic premise of how such grants operate. For today, individuals to small businesses to large corporations can obtain grants for a variety of reasons. In this case, if one is looking for Agriculture Grants, one then needs to decide on which type of agriculture grant and for what purpose one is seeking such a grant. This is because the application and grant process requires this along with additional information in order to be considered for same.

Such monies are often provided to minorities, children, women, men and students who attend college or private school. Generally when one has an education grant, one can receive funds for everyday living expenses such as groceries, credit card debt, clothing, rent, house payments, car payments and other expenses. In fact in one year, over $1 Trillion dollars was paid out in Grants which do not have to be paid back. So, if one can qualify for such a grant, it is definitely a good way to go in order to obtain funding which never has to be paid back over time.

However, when it comes to Agriculture Grants, there are basically four types, Business, Government, International and Research. Depending on one’s objective, all of these can be great for helping those facing struggles after the recent economic downtown. However, there are different requirements with regards to application and qualification related to all such grants.

Also, when it comes to Agriculture Grants, encouragement of bringing a variety of products to market is often the main objective. Although, finding ways to better collect, coordinate and disseminate information related to both the application as well as the recipient is also a very important part of the process. Still, both are worthy objectives which, after funding is received for such a grant, can often lead to greater success in the future.

Today, several grants exist which also match funds to State Departments of Agriculture which allows States to use grant money where needed. Of course, with the recent economic downtown, several States have become involved in marketing and research in order to assist in developing new methods of marketing in order to receive such funding. However, while monies may be less than the one trillion or so issued in 2001, a great deal of grant money remains available to all who request same, along with an appropriate application. However, as to whether or not one may receive such funding, this is a question that only the grant processor can answer after a careful review of the materials submitted as part of the application process.

As to the areas where such funding is mostly granted, these can include but are not limited to, direct markets, farmers, collectors and wholesale operations among others. In addition, cooperative or shared grants may be available to tribal governments, universities, the private sector and farmers’ groups which share a portion of the grant between organizations. Regardless, any money obtained through such a grant never has to be paid back and can be a great way of funding a project or projects when and where one qualifies for such free money.

As there is a technical aspect involved in receiving grants and following the associated rules and guidelines, it may be nice for individuals to know that there is also a technical support organization known as MSB, which assist in a number of grant applications, from helping with feasibility study preparation related to direct sales to learning more about how to work with cooperatives, collectors and farmers. As such, even those new to grant processing can rest assured that most likely the information one needs for any application is available through the MSB program.

To this end, whether one is looking for an agriculture or education grant, one only has to make an application and qualify in order to receive funds which never have to be paid back. So, if one is considering starting a small business or needs money to set up a farming operation, one may want to apply for such a grant. In doing so, one can save a great deal of money over time rather than taking out a small business loan which is going to include principal and most likely interest on a long term loan. Also, as loans can often cost someone more than twice as much as the monies borrowed, especially if one has issues with credit, one may want to be careful about obtaining such a loan. Regardless, if one can qualify for such a grant, then it is definitely a good thing to do as it can save individuals a great deal of money related to their education, farm or other business venture over time.

Applying for an agriculture grants might be a viable alternative to a small business loan if you own a farm or other agricultural entity. Agriculture grants are available for a range of projects related to the growth and distribution of agricultural products.
