The Day Could Have Been Better With IBC Spill Pallets

By Dorothea Evans

A manager gets to his shop first thing in the morning and finds out that there was a drum of chemicals that ruptured and began leaking overnight. Over one hundred gallons leaked down the concrete driveway, along the road, and into the sewer. Of course, this would not have happened with IBC spill pallets.

The chemicals were not hazardous to the environment, but the emergency response team had to answer the call anyway. When the police were called to the scene everyone with a scanner knew about the leak at the plant. The newspaper reporter made it to the scene taking pictures and pulling together the story for the next paper run. The local television station is busy interviewing an unhappy former worker that predicted a world ending event like this would happen.

The environmental protection agency arrives, and another three hours is spent filling out paperwork and initiating a full investigation. After six total hours of having employees on the clock but unable to do work, customers are now complaining about their late orders, and a ten thousand dollar fine is pending. The manager finally walks slowly into his office, where his bagged lunch from home is untouched.

He calls his wife and lets her know that he will not be able to make juniors baseball game because of having to work late. As he hangs up the phone, there is information on his desk explaining the many benefits of spill pallets. He had planned for weeks to order one, but put it off one day too many.

A spill pallet can be similar to life insurance. It only seems important when it is needed. But if one does not have it when absolutely needed then it is much too late. Wise managers know how insurance leads to assurance. Assurance includes little to no midnight calls and working weekends due to leaking chemicals and unavailable storage room. It almost eliminates the chance of environmental concerns from spills.

IBC stands for intermediate bulk container. This type of pallet is an effective and safe way of containing spills. Along with providing great flexibility both the chemical totes up to fifty inches square and drums can be stored in them.

Both the polyethylene and metal pallets have a spill capacity of up to four hundred gallons. This buys a lot of time between chemical inventory assessments that could catch the leak. These are great tools for placing under chemicals that are already leaking. The depth of the basins allow for sump usage. This could be a quicker drain method than a drain plug. Drain plugs are available on the polyethylene versions.

No matter if it is the single or double unit either can be equipped with a platform. This will allow for chemicals to be used in remote locations. A job site can be safe and more secure when this is used to dispense chemicals. IBC spill pallets can create security in more ways than one. This is definitely a wise investment to make.
