What You Should Know About Energy Efficient Light Globes
By Byron Jonas
The cost of electricity for lighting homes is becoming more expensive every day. When coupled with rising concerns about the environment and the worlds dwindling natural resources. It is encouraging to find there has been a noticeable rise in the number of households that use energy efficient light globes.
Shops, supermarkets and other suppliers of electrical goods no longer stock and sell the old fashioned conventional type light bulb. You can still use up any stock you may have already put aside in the house, but you cannot buy them. You should be aware that they do use more electricity, so your electric bill will remain high if you continue to use them.
When energy-efficient bulbs first appeared on the scene, they looked strange and did not fit many of the light fittings, so were not very popular. Today, they have become much more user friendly. They look more like spiral shaped bulbs, and they will work with the majority of household fitments. The product base has widened to include all household lighting needs.
Improvements made by manufacturers ensure that users can get the same level and quality of lighting they were used to with conventional bulbs. However, the new type bulbs have a much lower wattage which means they use less power. In addition, they can be expected to provide a good level of power for a much longer period of time.
Households that convert all their lightings to using these power saving bulbs can look forward to achieving savings in their electric bills. They may find that energy-saving bulbs is more expensive to buy than the old style conventional bulbs, but they will receive a return on their investment due to the longer life span.
You can also be proud of the fact that you are doing your bit to save the environment and support your Government. There is a world-wide push to cut greenhouse-gas emissions and by changing your lighting you are adding to that effort. It is claimed that household lighting using the old-style bulbs makes up around 9 percent of their emissions.
This type of lighting has been available to purchase for a number of years. Initially, it was not well received by the public because it was oddly shaped, large and did not work with many light fittings. Producers have now redesigned these bulbs and made sure that they will fit the majority of conventional light fittings in the home. They do help to cut lighting bills and greenhouse gases and are used in a large majority of homes.
