Enticing inducements and tax benefits are given by Singapore to foreign corporations. Further, the Singapore government has simple rules and policies for immigrant workers. Because of these, Singapore is the favored business and commercial destination of entrepreneurs and work professionals who come from different parts of the world.

For you to be able to work legally in this city-state, you have to acquire a work permit from the Singapore government. There are different types of work permit issued to foreign working professionals and entrepreneurs in Singapore, and this article serves as an overview of each of them.

Employment Pass (EP): Business owners and employees who are well-educated may be granted an Employment Pass by the Singapore government. The Employment Pass is granted to foreign employees who possess the following qualifications: must have an academic degree obtained from a respectable school and his or her salary must be more than SG$2500.00 per month. The Employment Pass is valid for one to 2 years and may be renewed upon expiry.

Entrepreneur Pass (EntrePass): There are situations when entrepreneurs wishing to set up businesses in Singapore may not qualify for an EP because they have no university degrees; the Singapore government, in these instances, grants entrepreneurs the EntrePass. The EntrePass is valid and renewable for as long as the business enterprise is still viable. The validity time period is from 1 to 2 years.

S Pass: Mid-level immigrant professionals may be granted an S Pass after the Singapore government’s assessment of their employer’s quota eligibility. Furthermore, the employee must at the minimum be a holder of a technical diploma and is paid a fixed income of SG$1800.00 on a monthly basis. As long as the worker is working for his or her employer, this work permit is renewable; its validity period is from one to 2 years.

Miscellaneous Work Pass: This work permit is granted to foreigners who are in Singapore for brief work assignments, a foreign religious worker or member of the clergy who is a speaker in a seminar, or a member of the media whose presence in the country is not sponsored by the Singaporean government.
