Why Is Gold The World’S Most Sought After Metal?

By Jack Wogan

The fascination people have always had for gold doesn’t seem to weaken with the passing of time. It is still the most sought after and high valued precious metal. For many cultures of the world, gold is more than just that and it has been invested with symbolic functions. In ancient times, people believed there was a symbolical connection between the gold’s long lasting luster and the sun. For old tribes, the yellow metal had been seen as the bearer of a mystic significance. It was also symbolically associated with immortality.

Gold and gold products reserves are the richness of every royal treasure in the world. Ordinary people show a great preference to it to for as long as anyone can remember, gold has always been a measure of value and wealth. The yellow precious metal is the traditional choice when it comes to engagement and wedding rings, but there are plenty of accessories people also like to wear: bracelets, earrings, necklaces, or watches.

It will be wrong for us to assume that jewelry is the only field in which gold can be found. Let’s take medicine, for instance, where this precious metal is used for treating patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Dentists have also made use of it for filling in cavities and for crowns. In time, the medical purpose made room for the cosmetic one as gold teeth were no longer just a dental prosthesis. Their function was rather ornamental. For some people in many parts of the world, teeth made of gold are a sign of a person’s status and wealth. And, even more interesting is the fact that nowadays the new trends in anti-aging treatments is to use gold as part of the recipe.

Either as jewelry, financial asset or industrial product, gold’s importance and popularity is unquestionable. What makes it so special among the other commodities are his special attributes. It can’t be destructed and doesn’t lose its value, yet there are other properties which make it suitable for uses in jewelry and coinage. It resists corrosion and his chemical composition doesn’t change in contact with elements like air and moisture. Furthermore, it has high density and malleability, ductility and tensile strength.

Used as a customary and legal means of payment or a medium of exchange, there its units of measurements are the gram and troy weight. ‘Carat’ is the term used for indicating the amount of gold in a piece of jewelry. For instance, in the case of a 24 carat necklace, we can speak of pure gold.

It’s not difficult to notice that gold is still everybody’s favorite. Things will stay that way as in times of world; financial or social instability buying gold is always the best solution for investing the money. The importance that gold has in the world’s economy is a reality and there is no arguing about that.
