When it comes to choosing a diet plan, it can be as difficult as sticking with the one you choose. There are thousands of diets and they all contradict each other, so how do you know which one is right? Keep reading to learn some of the advantages and disadvantages of some of the more well known diets.

The Glycemic Index or GI Diet has gotten quite a bit of publicity recently. The focus of this particular diet is glucose levels in your body which are contributed by carbohydrates that you ingest.

Detox diets, or ones that cleanse your system, are a great way to lose weight because they help you remove toxins from your body. They go by many names, such as the Master Cleanse, Natural Cleanse and various juice fasts. In the long-term, you will see beneficial results in regard to your health with the added benefit of losing weight during the process.

Even though you will almost certainly lose weight if you go on a fast or cleanse for a week or more, you’ll also gain most of this back when you go back to your regular diet. The main lesson to learn is that by eating less, and ingesting healthier meals, you will lose weight by doing this on a consistent basis. Cleansing your system is a good idea, but it will not provide a permanent solution.

Reducing stress, and getting enough sleep, have been shown by researchers to greatly enhance the probability of weight-loss with any dieting system. Losing weight is virtually impossible if you don’t sleep enough and if your life is full of stress. As you know, the more stressed out you are, the more likely you are to gain weight which can also affect your metabolism levels.

The number of available diet plans means you may have to try a few before finding the right one. Some people like a little flexibility in their diet plan, while some prefer ones that tell them exactly what to eat. You will typically do better with a diet that doesn’t leave you feeling deprived but you may need to cut back on your calories.
