Menu Writing Concepts

By Jeff Kaplan

Menus are essential accessories to any fancy or simple restaurant. Menus posted on the door entrance can entice potential customers to go inside, or when handed over to you on the table they create good impressions. You have looked upon the menu and upon giving out your order to the waiter you may not remember anymore what was listed on the menu.

Menus are not just what restaurants can present their customers. A flourishing restaurant depends largely on its menu. Menus posted on the door entrance can entice potential customers to go inside, or when handed over to you on the table they create good impressions. You have looked upon the menu and upon giving out your order to the waiter you may not remember anymore what was listed on the menu. In venturing to the restaurant business, menus are very critical in determining its success. Writing a menu must not be done lightly despite using uncomplicated words.

The menus are among the most reliable necessity of any luxurious or average restaurant. They are always prepared by restaurant attendants by posting them at the entrance or presenting them on the table as you take your seat. You have looked upon the menu and upon giving out your order to the waiter you may not remember anymore what was listed on the menu.

Making the menu doesn’t start at the definite writing of what the restaurant can serve. Menu writing starts with the type of restaurant in mind by a restaurateur. The restaurant type will tell how to go on with the menu writing. Hodgepodge never works while fusion is a good choice.

Creating menus is vital in the over-all management of a restaurant. Even when its choices of words are ordinary to an average customer a menu should be done with flair.

Whatever your preference is, contemporary or classical, Western or Asian, your restaurant will be prominent when you stick to a certain theme. The restaurant’s theme will provide an idea on how to create the menu. The theme will make the menu easier to develop for the convenience of the customer and for the restaurant’s inventory as well. The theme will guide the owner what to include and what not to in order to guide the chef as well.
