Guidelines For Selecting the Right Diet
By Bob Steele
Just because it seems to be rather complicated to find the right diet with all of the conflicting information, it doesn’t have to be that difficult. There’s no one diet that will work for everyone, but anyone can benefit from trying and sticking with a diet that’s consistent with their goals, lifestyle and current state of health. Let’s take a closer look at some ideas for choosing an effective diet.
The general category of low carb diets has been around for a long time, and many newer diets fit there as well. If you understand that there are good carbs that your body needs, then a low-carb diet can be effective by cutting out bad carbs. If you completely cut out carbs, you will remove the food that gives you energy. There are good carbs and bad carbs, so diets like the South Beach Diet are suggesting that you keep eating the good carbs, along with healthy fats, while eliminating the rest. Weight gaining carbohydrates are those which have been made using white flour, while eating vegetables and whole grains are good complex carbs. A diet that tells you to avoid all carbohydrates is not a good diet, since there is a big difference in carbs that are good for you, and in the carbs that are bad for you. What makes a diet popular and successful is that it can be followed and it works, and that is why people love the Mediterranean Diet. It helps to have foods that are natural in addition to being delicious, but just because the foods are good, you still can’t eat too much at one time. When you get to eat such foods as meat and seafood, fruits and vegetables, olive oil and more, it will be hard to feel deprived, and this is what you get with diets from countries such as Spain, Greece, Italy and France. If you want to lose your weight effectively in a healthy way, then choosing the natural foods and healthy fats of the Mediterranean Diet, could work out best for you.
People have weight problems sometimes because of a medical problem, but for the most part their issues are emotional. Anyone who uses food to feel better will have a tough time living at a consistent weight, along with having a tough time losing weight. If you are an emotional eater, you need to work on your problem or there is no reason to waste your time dieting. Techniques like self-hypnosis quite often work with this type of issue, and so do support groups and therapy. Emotions play a part in everyone’s life, but it shouldn’t be a reason for eating, since food is mainly to keep us alive. The beginning step to ending your emotional eating is to acknowledge your problem and seek help.
When you are honest about your diet goals, you will more likely find a diet which will work. Most people will give up on their diets rather quickly, if they are totally wrong for them, especially when their tastes don’t match. Weight loss programs can be frustrating, especially when you are doing a diet plan, and you think you are being faithful to the plan, but no weight is coming off. You will never survive on a diet that is a vegan diet, if you like having meat and seafood, so there is no reason to try that type of diet. In the same way, don’t go on the cabbage diet, if you would rather not eat cabbage. The only type of diet for you will be one where you enjoy the food, and you get enough so that you won’t go out and sneak more.
They have a diet called the No-Fad Diet Plan that encourages you to eat a heart-healthy diet that includes lots of whole grains and fruits and vegetables. There is another diet that is respected, which was created by a team of medical researchers, and has been named the Mayo Clinic Diet Plan. These diets can be found online and you can get plenty of support, because they are not from some fad diet book, but from solid research and the information that came from it. You may have tried more than one diet, and the only reason for that was you had the wrong one in the beginning, so it didn’t work. A nutritionist knows about food and what diet would be the best for you, so it would be good to consult one, along with your doctor. The diet needs to have good nutritional food, but it must be something you can live with, and not be a total sacrifice.
