All Kids Want A Lego Activity Table
By Amy Amoreno
There is a reason why Lego has been a popular toy for both boys and girls since the 1960s. It can be both educational and hours of fun for the entire family. A Lego Activity Table can only serve to make playing with them all the more fun.
These tables come in many colors and sizes for children of different ages. They make the activity of playing with them easier, neater, and more fun for both children and adults. It is a simple design, a plastic or wooden surface top made for fitting the pieces securely.
The pieces are brightly colored plastic blocks that fit together through a system of knobs and matching indentations. Being able to fit any two pieces together allows both children and adults to create a whole range of fantastic constructions. The surface is made up entirely of the knobs so that structures can be securely built up from the top of it. From this surface the sky is the limit, children, and adults, can build castles, railway lines and entire cities if they wish.
These tables are also a good solution to storing the blocks. The pieces are a great deal of fun to play with, but not so much fun to stand on. Most tables will have some kind of storage for the blocks just under the surface. The most common is a drawer, or even a few drawers, to store the blocks.
The toy brand has an interesting history and origin. The company was created by a Danish man called Ole Kirk Christiansen who began a carpentry shop in 1916. Originally he made furniture, but during the Great Depression he switched to toy making.
In 1934 the name of the toy was born. Ole Kirk held a competition among his staff to come up with a good name for his toy company. The name was chosen from a contraction of a Danish phrase “leg godi” which means “play well”.
After Ole Kirk Christiansen died his son Godfred took over and switched the toys to plastic. In the 1960s the brand gained incredibly popularity. 1968 saw the opening of the first park and more then 18 million of the toy sets were sold at that time
It remains a toy much loved by children, their parents and grandparents. In part because it is constructive, creative, and educational. A far cry from television and computer games, the Lego Activity Table is a welcome and appreciated addition to this great toy which has been a popular choice for over 50 years.
