Some Holdem Poker Basics
By Andy F
Holdem poker is the most popular poker game of all times. It is played in all the leading casinos of the world because of its high fun quotient. The players also get to gamble while soaking in the pleasure of this exciting game.
A holdem poker player has to be acquainted with terms like deal, blinds, and shuffle. Each player is called a blind. Each game of holdem poker has a dealer who shuffles the card deck, which generally consists of 52 cards. The players on the left of the dealer start the game by placing a certain amount of money inside the pot. The players start dealing with the cards only after they have placed the money. This ascertains that each hand of the game will be worth playing. This rule is popularly termed as posting the blinds.
According to the rules of holdem poker, the left-most player places the least amount in the bet. The second player from the left of the dealer has to place a full minimum amount. The rulebook of holdem poker states that each blind is to deal with just two cards. Both these cards, called Hole cards, will be placed with its face downwards. The call and the bet are started by the left-most player. A blind can call, fold, or raise the cards when his/her turn comes.
To seize all kinds of unfair means in the game, the dealer cancels the first round. This step is also called burning the cards. While playing holdem poker the players have to be patient and make the right bets at the right time. A blind has to overcome emotions and keep a straight and indifferent face throughout the game. Your facial expression of joy or sorrow will give your condition away to the other blinds.
On the other hand, as a player you have to read the expressions and body language of your fellow blinds. If you can get a hint about the psychological state of the blinds, you will surely stand a good chance to win the game.
Bluff playing is allowed in holdem poker. In bluff play the player places large bets in spite of a bad hand. It can be done till a certain extent of the game. If the other blinds call you out, you will suffer loses. The player should not set large bets if a bad hand is on.
Holdem poker is not a game of luck, but sheer intelligence. Make each move calculatingly and one day you will be a shark.
