Pokemon Diamond A True Gem For Any Collection

By Jacob Akshire

Pokemon has been an important name since its beginning in the mid-nineties, and the series continues to produce powerful additions to the gaming world. The creator’s original intent carries forth to Pokemon Diamond, immersing players into the childlike world of catching creatures to turn into pets. Players jumps into this fantastic world with a single pokemon by their side, and the Pokedex device to keep track of how many pokemon the players has captured.

The goal of the game, and every edition in the series, is to catch every pokemon and become the world’s greatest master trainer. Battles are engaging, pitting the player’s own pokemon against rivals or wild pokemon, and are simple enough that any age group can pick it up. Through adventuring around the diverse world, the Pokedex expands its catalog with every new Pokemon gathered and encountered.

The Diamond version sets itself apart from the others in the long series primarily through the use of the Nintendo DS’s Dual Screen and Wi-Fi capabilities. This handheld device connects millions of pokemon game owners and allows them to not only battle and trade with one another, but also to talk via the built in microphone. The controls are seamlessly integrated into the DS and the player can choose between the D-pad and the touch screen to operate their game.

The story guides the gameplay loosely enough to allow the player to truly feel a sense of freedom and adventure, while still maintaining a major goal. One of the Pokemon series’ ever-present characters, Prof. Oak, grants the young adventurer a pre-captured pokemon to begin their journey to mastering the world’s creatures of all shapes and sizes. And this is exactly what the player must do if they wish to make the title of Pokemon League Champion, and to subdue the evil members of Team Galactic.

As is customary in the pokemon franchise, Diamond has a legendary pokemon to call its own. The temporal steel dragon, Dialga, is the special monster in Diamond and cannot be captured or obtained in any of the other games. The antithesis of Dialga is the spatial creator Palkia, who has been in a never ending dual with the Time Ruler.

Upon completing a certain quest within the game, the trainer is allowed access into a special building where he or she can play with other trainers, real life people who also own the pokemon game. This is the first time that players from anywhere on the globe could interact wirelessly. This ability shows further innovation in that the system on which the game is played supports a microphone for the users to speak to each other.

The Pokemon series has a long history of mystery and excitement, all of which are sewn together beautifully in the games and television shows. Each individual game, although similar to the others, have their own thrilling story to tell. Pokemon Diamond is a both great game for any aged soft or hard core players to own.
