Assess Carefully Before Buying Used Tillers

By Mary Sadelwind

Used tillers for serious gardening is clearly needed for those people who are just plain lucky, especially if they have the right acreage to actually develop into a nice garden for vegetables and other crops. This can help them in their own household needs as they can sell off the excess for those interested in home grown vegetables. With these types of gardens, however, the need for durable and effective equipment is much needed by the serious gardeners. Fortunately, there is available used equipment that can help out the gardener if there are not enough budgets to cover for brand new ones.

One of the best things to have is tilling machines that will help cultivate garden borders, lots and vegetable patches. Rotary tillers are used to open and aerated the soil; control weeds and conserve moisture in the ground. To maintain the plots when the plants are getting bigger, one may need small rotary tillers, shovels, spades and forks, etc.

As a gardener, you have to be aware that gardening equipment are very expensive sometimes and the only course to get hold of one is to buy implements such as used tillers in order to cultivated you land properly. However, there are such things to consider as the cons in purchasing used tools. One thing that should warn you off is the price; usually if it is too cheap, think that there is something wrong with it or it is plain junk.

No one in their right minds would sell something so cheap if it were fully functional or even existing. Think about questions that you do not want any negative answers for like: why are they hard selling the used tiller? If it is such good quality and it is working, why get rid of it?

One can never be too careful when it comes to used tillers. Remember that these are one of the most used equipments in a garden and if you just end up buying used tillers that will just break in a few days or even months, then you should have been better off buying a brand new one instead. Another to think about is, can a neighbour lend you a tiller for a few days? Can you hire the neighbour’s son to till the land for you? These are things to consider before you take the plunge of buying anything.

Being sceptical is quite alright, as long as it is focused on the right reasons. Make sure that you are aware of what you are buying, be it brand new or used. There are some brand new tillers from manufacturing companies that no one has ever heard of. Sit in front of the computer and try to browse garden equipment sites that sell both brand new and used equipment. Talk to someone who knows what to expect and what to look for in a machine. Remember, these should not just last a year of gardening, it should last several years or even more if the maintenance is updated regularly and the used tillers are not left to rust or under the mercy of the elements.
