A kitchen sink is a place where you put all your utensils in which you eat food. So you can imagine yourself that how important is to keep a sink clean. You need to clean your sink periodically to maintain its beauty and hygiene. Here we will focus on some key points to be kept in mind while cleaning a stainless steel sink.

Stainless steel sinks are very convenient to handle and maintain. You can keep it glowing by frequently cleaning it. Cleaning of a steel sink is also important to prevent it from corrosion. Chromium oxide film over the surface of steel prevents it from corrosion.

When chromium reacts with oxygen it forms chromium oxide, same happens when chromium in steel reacts with atmospheric oxygen. Resulting chromium oxide acts as a protective shield for steel and help in protecting it from corrosion. But this layer is very sensitive and gets easily affected by dust particles and other harmful materials. so keep on cleaning the sink surface after specific period.

You should avoid food or beverage residue, metal canned products, mild steel or cast iron cookware to remain on stainless steel surface for long time as it can damage the surface by staining or corrosion.

Generally we use soaps, detergents and bleaches to clean the surface of a steel sink. But most of us don’t know that all these cleansers contain chlorides in it which is very harmful for steel and can destroy its surface badly if left for more duration. Hence, try to avoid that.

If you use a steel wool pad for cleaning your sink then it breaks into very minute particles (visible and non visible), stick to the surface and start rusting it.

Never let water to get dried on the sink surface as it can develop spots on the surface. Use a clean towel for removing the water. For cleaning dirty and greasy sink, use hot water along with some abrasive sponge which are safe to use. Remove all the things from the surface after cleaning to protect it from corrosion.

Keep your sink clean to protect yourself from harmful effects of various micro-organisms and germs. Make your life healthy and hygienic with a clean and clear sink.
