Another method you could use is weed killer. The type that is most effective is called glyphosate and they are in the products Gallup, Touchdown, Landmaster, Ranger, Pondmaster, Rodeo and Roundup. The way Roundup works is that you spray the foliage and it is a systemic plant killer. You can also inject it into the plant. The best time of the year to use it is in the late summer going into fall when the foliage is sending its reserves to the roots. Some people spray all year long.

It can be suppressed by cutting it back in the summer making sure to pick up the cuttings as they will re-root themselves. This can be done before spraying as this will not kill it. This is a lot of work.

Another method is to dig it up and bag it. It will into work the first time around as the root system is very strong and it will pop up again. It will take a lot of perseverance to get rid of this plant. The rhizomes are the worst part, this is what you need to kill off.
