What Should You Look In Your Bathroom Remodeling Contractor ?

By Scott Rodgers_

If you have decided to remodel your bathroom then you should think for hiring a contractor for this. Here are a few tips to take into consideration when you choose a contractor for this project.

The first thing to consider is the working experience of the contractor. A minimum of 5 years experience is important to have in this field. You also need to consider if the contractor has any education in the trades? Does the contractor continue to educate him or herself to keep up with changing codes and design?

Find out if the contractor can provide references of past clients? You should call at least 2 of any named references for feedback. You can research the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been filed against the contractor. Anyone can file a complaint against any company through the BBB.

Check if the contractor you are planning to hire is insured or not. If you accept a bid from a contractor, be sure to require a certificate of insurance before the job starts. If the contractor is doing electrical or plumbing work then make sure that he has license for that.

Besides all the above mentioned things, also check if the contractor belongs to any trade organizations such as NARI (National Association of Remodeling) or HBA (Home Builders Association).

If possible, ask if you can look at some of their work. The larger your job is, the more appropriate it is for you to expect to see their work first hand. Do not use price as the deciding factor.

In addition, for a contractor to meet all of the above criteria, find out his service charges. Check if the charges asked by him are reasonable or not. If something goes wrong on the job, will that contractor be in business to resolve any problems?

The best way to find a contractor is by asking for referrals from people you trust. Be sure to ask all of the above mentioned questions. Always have a signed contract before starting any job. Mention all the details in your contract like the scope, time line and schedule. This is to protect both of the involved parties.
