A Short Discussion On The Effects Of Asbestos

By Tamala Parsons-Wilkes

There are a few things in this world that are available to the public and sold everyday only to find out they are not good for humans or animals later on down the road. Sometimes medications are sold that are not good for the human body and cause serious health threats. One of the most popular mishaps is use of the insulation known as asbestos. This element was used in ceiling tiles and around pipes in the early development of buildings across the country. It was discovered many years later to be the reason for many to have lung and breathing problems.

This type of insulation was used quite often in buildings of all kinds. Churches, schools, businesses and even homes were insulated with the dangerous element. At the time it was used, it did not seem to pose a problem. It took at least 15 years for doctors to realize that those that have inhaled the insulation on a regular basis are in grave danger.

The health threats posed by asbestos that had been interrupted were not discovered for quite some time. This is because there were no signs of danger with immediate exposure. However, now it is considered to be one of the worst heath threats of our time.

The problem with exposure to asbestos was that many of the problems caused by the insulation were not visible to doctors or patients until many years after exposure. This allowed the medical condition to mature for 15-20 years, making it difficult to treat.

Cleaning the asbestos out of buildings also caused problems. It was determined that if the element had not been interrupted, it did not cause problems to humans. However, if the insulation was disturbed, many safety precautions were in order. Because of the nature of the element, anyone exposed to it was at risk, including those that do the clean up and destruction of the insulation.

Luckily, the main feature of a building that used the element used them in the ceiling tiles. This made it a little easier for those to do the clean up from making a real hazard of the insulation. Buildings that had the type of insulation that caused problems throughout the building were destroyed and rebuilt, using the correct type of insulation.

The health treats of exposure is a very serious situation. Because the medical conditions caused by the element are very hard to detect, people that have been exposed may not be diagnosed for 15-30 years after being exposed. This allows the disease or cancer to manifest into a medical condition that is very hard to control and can often never be cured. It is a deadly situation that many have because of the used of asbestos in their homes and schools.

If you believe that you have been exposed to the older type of insulation, it is suggested that you talk to your doctor immediately. Many people show symptoms 20 years after exposure. There are many different lung conditions and breathing problems that are directly linked to the element.
