Learning About Allergy Shots Alternatives

By Jerry Knight

Allergy Shots Alternatives: Many recognize allergy shots alternatives as effective, but at the same time they see them as a last resort. There are many allergy treatments available on the current market and individuals suffering from mild to severe allergies are encouraged to discuss all the available options with an allergist. The range of symptoms presented as a result of an allergic reaction vary greatly. Allergic reactions are triggered by exposure to an allergen (any substance that causes an allergic reaction).

Listing all the possible symptoms that can go along with an allergic reaction is nearly impossible. Allergic reaction symptoms can be almost anything. But common symptoms are asthma attacks, eczema, rashes, hives, conjunctivitis, itchiness, rhinitis, etc. The specific allergic reaction depends on multiple variables including the individual at hand, the situation and the allergen. But a patient can often easily identify their allergens by observing the repetitive presentation of the same (or similar) set of symptoms in response to exposure to a certain allergen or group of allergens.

The level of severity ranges from mild to severe. For instance hay fever allergies are very common. Many in the general public suffer from hay fever allergies. Symptoms commonly presenting in response to hay fever allergies include runny and itchiness. But other allergies can have severe repercussions such as anaphylactic reactions that can lead to life threatening situations.

Allergy testing is available to aid patients in identifying their specific allergens. Testing the skin for allergic responses to allergens is one method of testing. Another testing method is to study the blood of a patient in order to detect the presence and levels of allergen-specific IgE. Due to the wide range of allergens and allergies treatment options also vary. Possible effective treatment methods include: allergen avoidance, anti-histamines, oral medications such as steroids, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, etc.

Accessing the expertise of an allergy specialist can aid individuals in determining their allergens, their allergic reactions, and the best treatment plan for their allergic situation.

Treatment: Many take advantage of the allergy shots alternatives (injections). This treatment typically results in an increased production of antibodies for particular allergens. They aid the body as it attempts to fight the negative effects of the allergen. The theory behind allergy shots alternatives is that the increased number of antibodies meant to fight the negative effects of the allergen will help the body block the allergic reaction (or decrease the severity) the next time the allergen comes into contact with the individual.

Effective immunotherapy allergy shots can reduce the need for medicine, reduce the severity of the allergic reaction or, in some cases, remove the effect of the allergen altogether.

Summary: Allergic shots alternatives are an appropriate treatment for allergies. They decrease the severity of the reaction to the allergen in many instances. They can sometimes eliminate the reaction entirely. In many cases the positive effects are long term. Some cases react negatively to allergic shots alternatives and may require a change in dosage.
