Charlotte is a city situated in Mecklenburg County in North Carolina, with an estimated population of 756,912 as of 2010. It is the largest city in the state and is the 18th largest city in the U.S. Charlotte is nicknamed the Queen City and was named in honor of the German Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg, who became the queen consort of British King George III just a year before the founding of Charlotte. The climate of Charlotte is categorized as a humid subtropical climate zone. The city center rests on top of a long rise between two creeks, Sugar Creek and Irwin Creek. The city is a major U.S. financial center and is now the second largest banking center in the U.S. after New York.

There are many recreational opportunities in Charlotte, given that it is a huge city. City parks, dog parks, and nature preserves provide outdoor lovers sites to hike, cycle, or just take a stroll.
