Clean And Sterilized Medical Equipment

By Donata LaVrie

When John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln, the doctors were rushed to the scene in order to save the life of their president. The doctors examined the bullet wound, its positioning in the head, and the body of the president. They determined that the president was still alive and could be saved as long as the bullet was successfully removed from where it was lodged in the head.

As such, the procedure commenced in which the bullet was successfully removed from the head of Abraham Lincoln. Unfortunately, however, the ending that we all know differs from what the doctors had concluded, and, today, we all know why as well.

The doctors were absolutely correct in determining that Abraham Lincoln’s life could possibly be saved were the bullet to be removed from the head. However, they were not aware of the fact that when removing the bullet, the equipment that they used needed to first be sterilized.

Indeed, what ultimately caused the final blow to Abraham Lincoln was not the bullet but, rather, the non-sterilized utensils that shoved thousands of vicious bacteria cells into the depths of his brain.

We are aware, today, of the dangerous bacteria and viruses that can be deadly when they come in contact with man. Therefore, medical institutions across the globe have made it their top priority to provide safety for all doctors and their patients by using medical equipment that permits for minimal bacteria environments as well as sterilized utensils.

Although one would never think it, the tiniest little cotton swab can be deadly if used on multiple patients.

Similarly, for a physician to provide care for a patient with a contagious disease such as tuberculosis without the proper protection is equivalent to suicide. Coveralls and hoods must be provided for every doctor that treats patients with such illnesses.

By keeping away from harmful germs and bacteria, we protect our families, hospitals, and, of course, ourselves.
