Coccyx or the tailbone is one part of the body that can give you a lot of pain. The coccyx is that part of the body which is joined at the lower part of the spinal cord though there is really no life in that part as it is considered the vestigial remains of the long gone tail before the human beings evolved from the ancient beings.

That said the tailbone or the coccyx can cause a huge amount of pain because of the number of issues. Coccydynia is the name given to the problems caused by coccyx pain and related health issues. In some cases the pain is so severe that the coccyx may have to be operated surgically.

However it is better that surgery be considered only when there is no option left. A lot of people use tailbone cushions to avoid putting pressure on the tailbone. In this cushion there is a hole or a cut out which helps avoiding pressure on the tailbone and the tailbone does not touch the chair.

A major reason for the tailbone problems is when we fall on the ground. Whenever you fall on the floor the body weight gets transferred to the lower part of the tripod structure and that is where the coccyx is. This again can causes pain however there is no way to correct it than to bear it and gradually the bone will heal. Use seat cushion to alleviate pain while sitting. Trained doctors and massage therapist can help relieve the pain.

To effectively treat the problems arising out of the dislocated or fractured coccyx you need to consult someone who is an expert. To the untrained person this is similar to the lumbar pain however that is not the case though. Consult your orthopedic surgeon for the right advice.

Coccyx seat cushions or tailbone seat cushions are a good way to avoid coccyx pain or tailbone pain
