Chronic yeast infections are usually defined as four or more yeast infections within a year. There may be some dangers involved in connection to this and it is very important to have a doctor monitor the progress of the condition.
If the patient is diabetic, then that could be the rationale why the infection will not disappear. The increase in sugar in the blood will serve as food for the fungi and make it proliferate even more. Some women also develop an immune response when taking birth control pills and the response can unbalance the ph levels in the vagina. When taking steroids for another reason, there is always the danger of a yeast infection. There’s also the question of taking antibiotics for another infection which can cause the yeast to proliferate. A culture test or a vaginal smear test is the diagnostic tools used to find out what can cause the chronic yeast infections.
This chronic type of infections can also happen because of previous yeast infections that had either been left undiagnosed or untreated. It is important to consider antibiotics if there is yeast infection, however there are some women who do not bother to go to the gynaecologist and simply resorts to yeast infection home remedy alternatives. There is also a chance that the medication was not taken for the prescribed amount of time and it only fed the immunity of the yeast from the antibiotics.
This infection may also occur if the woman is treated well but the partner is not. The partner may be the source of the infection because of lack of treatment or simply refusal of treatment. Some partners feel that it is always the suffering partner that is the cause of the infection and there is no probability that they may also be the cause. It is the denial factor that can make things difficult in treating yeast infections.
There are some chronic yeast infections conditions when the usual short time medications will no longer work. Depending on the severity of the contagion, the doctor may or may not prescribe a long term treatment. Some fungal infections can be pretty tough to get rid of and there are times when a six month therapy may not be enough. Some patients look to this in fear because of the length of time. However, this is only usual with any yeast infection as these do not react to antibiotics the same way as ordinary bacteria does. The treatment is further compromised when the menstrual flow disturbs the balance in the ph of the genital tracts.
Douching is not a good practice especially when done frequently. The douches can disrupt the normal bacterium in the genitals and this disruption could trigger the Candida yeast to increase considerably and wreck havoc on the sensitive flesh. Chronic yeast infections can be prevented by simply practicing good hygiene using white non-perfumed soap to clean.
