Dental Graduates In Numbers

By David Simmons

One corporation located in New York predicted that the years to come will result to a huge expansion of the field of dentistry including changes within the dental equipment and dental supply industries. When it comes to third party payment plans dentistry did not achieve the same luck as the other fields of medicine in terms of having significant coverage but now more and more Americans are beginning to obtain dental insurance policies for themselves and one European businessman is confident that this will not cease. Because of the increasing demand for dental insurance the field of dentistry may be able to gather the necessary funding they will need to give the dental profession a boost.

For those who are part of the dental trade whether as equipment suppliers or manufacturers of dental supplies the years to come bears nothing but fruitful events including a doubling of sales possibly reaching the one billion dollar mark. Counting professional revenues, the projected total volume sales of the dental industry is close to 10 billion dollars a year. This article serves to provide significant information regarding the actual situation of the dental field wherein there exists a part of the population who will still disregard getting dental services for personal reasons.

It is relatively easy for these people to be provided with some form of dental insurance. It is not a good sight to see numerous patients seeking dental care without enough dentists to treat them. There is a limited number of practicing dentists like in America where eleven thousand out of a hundred thousand professionals find themselves involved in the military forces or in public health systems. When it comes to dental school graduates the annual increase experienced by the field of dentistry is only about 4.5 percent on the average and the same situation applies for those who practice dentistry with only a 1 percent increase per year.

Although technological developments are evident in dentistry it is a sad thing that the field has not been able to come close to the efficiency of its medical counterparts in terms of economic development. But the dentist still works too slowly to meet the expected explosive demand for his skilled services. He adds that there is not enough efficient, time saving teamwork, four handed and six handed dentistry.

Working faster is not as easy for the dentist who may be required to create a set of new dentures for a patient covered by dental insurance or perform a lot of bridgework to straighten the teeth of the same patient. There is also the need for those in the dental equipment and supply business to provide the dentists with better tools that can help them work more efficiently.
