Detox Your Liver For Better Health

By David Park

A detox (or to give it it’s full name: detoxification) is the removal of toxic substances from the body, particularly via the liver and kidneys. So, why do we need to detoxify our bodies anyway? Well, sometimes these toxins accumulate in the body and can make us very sick indeed, particularly if they come from alcohol or fatty foods. A detox helps the liver and kidneys to get rid of these nasty invaders.

Detoxifying your body can be beneficial to your health and many people experience such success with them that they make them part of their regular diet.

How do we detoxify our bodies? Well, there are several ways this can be done but most of the common and easiest ways is just to modify your diet. Of course, a good diet, rich in superfoods, will not only ais your liver but will also improve overall health too. Many people report such great results as increased energy, clearer skin, glossier hair and better nails as well as weight loss. The different kinds of diets are:

Cutting out food for a very short while is a very common way of detoxing the body. Some people just drink water while others also drink fresh juice such as blueberry, orhange or goji. Please note, fasting diets such only be undertaken for a maximim of 24-48 hours. Also, while back to eating regularly, increasing the amount of foods which are high in antitoxins or antioxidants.

Antitoxins are very important to the body to aid detoxification. This is because when the liver naturally works and changes a toxic substance into a less toxic one, substances called free radicals are released into the body. Because these free radicals are believed to be just as bad for us, doctors and nutritionists advise us to eat certain types of foods that contain antitoxins that help us keep the body safe from these free radicals.

Also, in another phase of natural function, the liver cells add a substance to the toxin to make it water soluble and allow it to be filtered out by the kidneys in the urine. Again, certain foods can help in this process.

These foods include fresh fruit like blueberries, oranages and apricots and fresh vegetables such as tomatoes, onions, kale, watercress, spinach, broccoli and peas.
