Control Diabetes By Controlling Your Diet

Diabetes is one of the major health concerns in the USA nowadays. The most alarming thing about this disease is that most cases of diabetes are caused by bad diet and lifestyle choices. Genetic predisposition to the disease can be controlled as long as the people can stabilize their blood sugar levels by eating healthy food.

So there you have it. If you want to control diabetes, take charge of your diet. But we all know how difficult it is to let go of comfort food and a sedentary lifestyle. If the people with tendencies toward the condition consume a diet full of fat and sugars, they inadvertently develop full blown diabetes. Obesity and diabetes are linked. The reason is that often obesity is caused by diets high in fat, refined sugars and processed foods.

It’s important to combine healthy foods so that you have a good ratio of leaner proteins, whole grains, healthy omega 3 fats, and fiber. Lean proteins from meat plus a whole grains diet is the best anti-diabetes combo you can get when it comes to dietary choices.. The fiber content of beans help slow the release of carbohydrates and sugars into the blood stream. Avoid too much carbohydrates if you’re genetically predisposed to contract diabetes Carbohydrate loading may result in insulin resistance.

One more thing you can do is to eat your breakfast, lunch and dinner on time. Some sources advocate eating six times a day, on time, but the frequency of consumption really depends on what your body is used to. Eating the right types of food at the right hour of the day is one of the best ways to cope with a predisposition to diabetes.

If you’re already diabetic, there are a lot of ways to cope. One of the things you should always keep in mind is that food works differently in diabetics. Insulin resistance varies at different times during the day, and these are the times when you should eat healthy food.

Stress Can Aggravate Your Disease

Stress is a poison that your psyche does not need if you’re struggling with diabetes. So what you must do is avoid stress as much as possible. There’s also this dangerous attitude called emotional eating, or cravings, which could ruin your diet. Your self-esteem plummets when you’re stressed and this could make you feel like you have to eat food to stay in control.
