When symptoms like a runny nose, constant sneezing and coughing, or itchy body rashes are creating a problem for you, it usually means you have caught an allergy. This reaction is our body’s way of resisting to some external allergen. There can be many factors that can trigger an allergic outbreak, such as a specific food item like milk, soy or other dairy products, contact with external agents like dust and pollutants, hairs of household pets, pollen etc or even certain medical drugs.

Diagnosis by a certified and experienced specialist must be the first step that the sufferer should take instead of trying to trace out the factors causing the allergy himself or herself, that could result in misdiagnosis and wrong treatment. After the real reason behind the allergy is discovered, the physician can start the treatment of the allergic reaction with the right combination of medicines.

Antihistamines and other such anti-allergic drugs prescribed by a specialist are the most well known and affordable types of treatment. However, prevention of any allergic reaction is always better than cure. If you are sensitive to dust and cleaning the residence gives you a severe allergic attack, then it is advisable to wear a mask while performing such tasks. Allergy causing agents can also be greatly restricted by air purifiers at your home.

You should always avoid the drugs that you are allergic to and before beginning a new therapy or treatment, let your doctor know about it. Food allergy can be got rid of by being cautious about your diet and keeping out anything that has resulted in an adverse reaction in the past.

In case your allergic attacks are so severe that they result in considerable disruption of normal life, or medications are not working adequately or you wish to prevent another attack due to other reasons, you can request your doctor to advise vaccination to control the allergy. By doing this, you can continue to lead a normal and active life outdoors without fear of unseen agents triggering an attack.
