How Treadmill Running Works

By Dr. Stephan Debussey

The art of running is one that is more diverse than you would initially assume. Most people believe that running entails heading out and pounding the proverbial pavement to get in shape. Honestly, running outside would be a great idea and many people take part in such a hobbyist approach. Yet, it would be incorrect to assume all running is done outdoors. You can certainly be an active runner without leaving your home or apartment.

Is this all a suggestion that you should be running in place in your home? That is not out of the question but it would also be a somewhat oddball exercise program to take part in. Instead, it would be a much better plan to purchase a quality treadmill system. When you have access to a high quality treadmill, you will learn it is a lot easier to get in great shape and remain in shape will working out in the home.

Yes, it can be a lot of fun to go for a run in the great outdoors. It is also important that people realize running outside cannot be done under certain circumstances. Case in point, rain and cold can make you think twice about running. Inclement weather might undermine your ability to take part in your favorite daily running session. A work schedule might even be a great impediment to running. With a treadmill in your home, the bulk of these problems will not be much of a problem. Regardless of what the weather is like or what time of the day it may be, you have the potential to get on the treadmill and give your workout a go.

Treadmills are known to have tons of benefits associated their use and a few of these benefits are ignored. There are huge benefits to exercising on a treadmill and one is it offers a flat surface. All people that opt to run on uneven surfaces will note that stress to the knees often results. The repeated bouncing deriving from running on uneven surfaces will usually be an origin point to these problems. A treadmill can help you prevent this from being at issue. The surface of a treadmill remains totally even.

Treadmills can also be programmed to handle a wide range of different workouts. You can integrate interval training, high intensity workouts, different angles in height on the treadmill, and various modifications not possible running on the sidewalk. Often, these additional modifications to the treadmill can significantly alter the potential to get in shape.

Would treadmills be a little better to run on than surfaces such as the sidewalk? Perhaps the best description would be to call them different as opposed to better. Such differences allow for much better variety in a workout which can deliver better results for those committed to improving their overall conditioning.
