Easy Methods For Going To Sleep

We all know that feeling of being dog tired, but sleep just won’t come. It has the knock on effect of you being exhausted the next day and literally having to drag yourself from your bed. Here are a few things you can try to improve the situation.

We all have bedtime habits such as watching TV or surfing the bed, this makes your brain work hard as you are tired so it won’t switch off when you want it to.

You are preventing yourself from sleeping as however relaxed you feel, you are concentrating on that TV show etc. Turn them off and you turn off your brain.

If lying awake in the darkness is your main problem, turn the lamp on a get hold of the most boring book you can find. Make it informative but not in the slightest bit entertaining, this is a tip used widely by students. Once you start reading your brain shuts down.

You need to so something to make you tired and physical exercise that really pushed you is the best way to do this. Your mind and your body will both switch off through exhaustion.

Although some people say all exercise will do this, I tend to stick to cardio and resistance work. Yes I have that buzz immediately afterwards, but by the evening my body is crying out for sleep.

If you have poor eyesight, take out your contacts before getting into bed, this is for two main reasons.

If you still have them on and force yourself to watch TV through tired eyes they will be harder to close. Your eyes will feel relaxed and more comfortable by taking them off beforehand.

The last thing is that you should never eat at night. The obvious reason for this is weight gain as you won’t burn off the calories and secondly it is another distraction that you are thinking about. Your brain will associate bedtime with food and you will find yourself getting food and snacks instead of relaxing and winding down.
