How To Choose The Best Katy OB GYN

By Stefanie Schwartz

Any mother or soon-to-be mother knows that good pre- and post-natal care is absolutely vital for a healthy and trouble-free term birth. Whether this is a first child, or you are simply new to the area, finding an excellent Katy OB GYN is probably high on the list of things to do to prepare for the new arrival.

OB/GYN is an acronym we all have heard tossed around, but what does it mean exactly? Simply put, it is a medical expert who specializes in gynecology and obstetrics. Obstetrics concentrates on pregnancy, the growing fetus, and childbirth. Gynecologists are concerned about the wellness and care of the female reproductive system. Most OB/GYN practitioners are educated in both fields, but may choose to specialize in one or the other.

At the time a woman learns she is pregnant she can understandably experience anxiety about the future. Those projected worries can overshadow the need to find the right doctor for herself and her baby as soon as possible. That person should be concerned, competent, and well trained in all the latest skills and procedures. He or she will guide a new mother through the maze of tests and checkups, and be able to find, explain, and hopefully fix any problems.

There are sub-specialists in this area of practice to consider. For example, a reproductive gynecologist examines and treats problems involving reproductive endocrinology. Gynecologic oncologists specialize in cancers which may involve the female reproductive organs. Others concentrate of those problems or complications arising during pregnancy that may affect both mother and child. Some practice critical care medicine and help women who suffer child-carrying related organ damage.

If these titles sound a little technical or cold, don’t be turned off. Physicians dealing in the care and treatment of mother and baby are caring, competent, and devoted to wellness during and after pregnancy. These practitioners want you and your baby to enjoy a safe and successful delivery. Most births are safe and normal, but when a complication arises, they will be there to help save lives.

The best way to choose a specialist that fits your needs is to start early, or before the pregnancy if possible. Most people must choose a physician who participate in the medical insurance plan they carry. Do the research to find which doctors, or medical groups, are available through your plan. There are many OB/GYN specialists in Katy, Texas, which is part of the greater Houston area. Make an appointment with more than one if necessary, and decide who best suits your specific needs. Don’t be afraid to switch if things don’t work out. It is important to have a good working relationship with the person who will probably be there to deliver your child.

With this in mind, finding the best Katy OB GYN should be easier. Don’t forget to check with other mothers and mothers-to-be, because their experiences can save you time and trouble in coming to a decision. Then, once you have chosen a good doctor, your experience can be a little easier and less worrisome knowing you and your baby will be well taken care of.
