Hypothyroidism Diet: Hints and Tips.

By Jenny Toppleman | January 29, 2010

If you have a low thyroid you need to know which steps to take to get you feeling good once again. There are many things you can do but one of them is to change your diet. This is something anyone with hypothyroidism can do and it will produce results.

If you have hypothroidism then your metabolism will have slowed right down and this will nearly always result in rapid weight gain even if you are not eating high fat junk foods. Along with this come a whole series of other symptoms that you can control with the right diet.

Read this article closely to find out the hints and tips that I use to get me feeling good despite the fact I have a low thyroid.

You need to avoid foods which are full of natural goitrogens. That’s because these foods will often hinder your thyroid function, make you feel bad and gain weight. Some foods to avoid are turnips, cabbage, broccoli and kale.

Although this might sound hard to do it is completely worth it once you start to feel the effects. It will only take a few months for these effects to be felt and I often recommend keeping a diary to chart this progress.

You need to have some healthy fats in your diet as well as foods which contain tyrosine. You can get these things from fish and olive oil.

I would strongly recommend a supplement containing omega 3 like a fish oil supplement. It can often be hard to get lots of these nutrients in your diet so supplements are a great help.

You can’t imagine how good these changes will make you feel so make a comitment to start today and keep track of your progress. In a few months your energy levels will soar.

I would also make sure you keep your fiber intake as high as you can. You can do this by eating cerials, brown pasta and whole grain bread. This helps to relieve constipation, a common side effect of hypothyroidism.

These foods are also a great source of vitamin B which is very good for increasing energy levels.

Losing weight and feeling great with hypothyroidism is not easy but it is possible. Take action now and start your journey. Just imagine how much better you will feel with a healthy new hypothyroidism diet.
