Nursing homes are probably probably the most relevant places today most specifically in Europe and in the USA. Numbers of geriatric patients have increased significantly. It is in fact just about the most needed businesses today. That is why hiring newly graduates and experienced allied health personnel have increased dramatically in the past few years as well. One of the most popular positions is the Nursing Home Administrator.

The roles of the Nursing Home Administrator are so significant. Cited below are the duties and responsibilities of the nursing home administrator.

Nature and Scope

The one who oversees the whole nursing facility is the Nursing Home Administrator. It is a managerial position that requires a diploma and training in allied health. The administrator also handles problem resolution and operations too. The Administrator directly reports to the Director of Adult Care Services on a daily and weekly basis as to the status of the whole facility. They also oversees the persons being admitted in the facility.

One of their core responsibilities of the Administrator is to ensure that the facility according to the standards provided by the DOH and the state. The Administrator also has to make sure that the services it provides and provides its residence is up to standards that are expected by its clients, their loved ones and doctors. The objective of this is to minimize complaints, state licensure violations and possible legal issues.

The Administrator, on this note, develops and implements policies, procedures and regulations that are in line with Federal and State requirements. He is also in charge in hiring qualified and licensed allied health care professional regularly. The Administrator monitors and directs the activities of Department Heads to be sure that t he policies and procedures are properly implemented. The Administrator also regularly do analysis on the operations gearing towards complete compliance of State and Federal Laws.

Also, they are in charge in planning and budgeting. He also sees to it that all financial transactions including but not limited to revenue sources, grant writing and the likes are properly documented. He has to see to it that the financial books are properly maintained.

The Administrator has also the function of mediator who tries to resolve within his capacity problems of employees, patient and employee grievances and others to ensure the smooth work flow of the nursing facility. He is also the contact point of patients, families and the general public who may have some interest in the facility in one way or another.

The above mentioned responsibilities found in the job description of a Nursing Home Administrator are just some of the important functions of this role. Upon evaluation of the entire role, it’s very evident that it is a critical role requiring the expertise of a person who has served and worked in the allied health course for considerable period of time. It is one of the most desired jobs at this time and there are a lot of requirements. Investing on gaining this experience will eventually pay off once hired as an Administrator for a Nursing Home.
