Keep Your Skin Healthy

In order to maintain smooth and vibrant skin, proper vitamins and nutrients are required. Skin cells need vitamins and nutrients to regenerate properly. Also any soap used for washing skin should be gentle, as harsh soaps will cause harmful drying in the outer layers of the skin.

Vitamin A and E both play a vital role in skin health. Vitamin A slows the appearance of aging in skin and Vitamin E is necessary to aid in Vitamin A synthesis. Vitamin E is also an antioxidant, reducing the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles. Both of these vitamins are available in oral capsules; Vitamin E is also available in topical oil form.

Relieving and preventing dry skin, Shea Butter is an excellent moisturizer. This substance is most effective when used in raw form and rubbed on the skin directly. Shea Butter also contributes to elasticity in skin and provides protection from the sun. This beneficial substance has also been proven to reduce blemishes, scars and stretch marks.

After daily face washing, using a moisturizer is very important. In arid climates, moisturizing should be used twice daily. Facial moisturizers should contain as many natural ingredients as possible and no chemicals. Collagen and Elastin are two elements a good moisturizer should contain; both contribute to elasticity and minimize the appearance of wrinkles.

Two of the most beneficial vitamins for skin are Vitamins A and E. Vitamin E is available in a form of oil, but both A and E are available in capsule form. Vitamin A is an antioxidant that has been shown to slow the appearance of aging in skin. Vitamin E is necessary to synthesize Vitamin A and also is an antioxidant which reduces the appearance of aging and wrinkles.

Sun exposure is something that is necessary, but should be done in moderation. Prolonged sun exposure should be avoided especially between the hours of 10:00 a.m and 4:00 p.m. If sun exposure during these hours is necessary, a sunscreen with SPF 40 or higher is recommended. About 15 minutes of direct sunlight exposure during safe hours is recommended each day to receive adequate Vitamin D. Vitamin D is a beneficial antioxidant to skin and enhances skin cell metabolism; additionally it is synthesized in the skin and promotes healthy bones.

Diet is one of the most important factors related to skin health. Adequate amounts of fruits and vegetables are especially necessary for skin health because of their many vitamins and nutrients. Eating a balanced diet will contribute to beautiful, smooth and radiant skin.
