Keeping Kids’ Teeth Healthy And Strong

Babies should be given dental care at home and even by the dentist, just like everybody else. Early intervention in your child’s dental care would lead to a good dental future for your child. This is important because primary teeth reserve space for permanent teeth. Early loss of baby teeth would result in new teeth coming out crooked since the other teeth may shift to the empty space.

Relieve the pain your child experiences from sore gums caused by teething by rubbing the gums with a clean finger or small spoon. The pediatrician or dentist would be the one you can turn to if the child continues to show discomfort. Parents should start wiping a baby’s gums during the infant’s first days after birth.

It is recommended that at the first sign of a tooth, tooth brushing should begin to remove plaque. The toothbrush to be used should be one that is suitable for children. The toothbrush should have soft bristles that won’t scratch the gums, yet small enough to fit into the mouths.

Infants who sleep drinking milk, formula, or fruit juice may develop baby bottle tooth decay. The occurrence of cavities and tooth loss would be the eventual result. Permanent teeth would not grow well if no proper treatment is given. Putting your baby to sleep using a pacifier or a bottle of water would be the best way to prevent baby bottle tooth decay.

When you bring a baby to the dentist early in life, you can stop small problems from developing into much bigger ones. During this time, the dentist will look closely at the condition of your baby’s teeth and report of any dental problems he may have found. Oral hygiene tips and diet advice are also given by the dentist during this time.

The best time to teach your child why dental care is important is when they are still young. The best way to begin is by setting a good example. Whatever brushing, flossing, and rinsing you do habitually will most likely be emulated by your child.

Educating kids on toothbrushing should be done when they are two or three years old. When kids hit their fifth year, they can be old enough to brush by themselves with their parents only giving them slight supervision. Some practice is needed by a child to do flossing because it is a more difficult task to do. When the child reaches the age of two or three, you be the one to floss his teeth first. When a child reaches eight years old, he may be able to floss alone with some supervision.

One of the natural minerals found on earth, fluoride is good for the teeth since it strengthens enamel and makes it resistant to decay. While all people need fluoride, the need is especially important for young children. While the new teeth are starting to develop, the fluoride begins to mix in with the developing enamel, causing the teeth to be healthier and stronger.

Fluoride for children is available in either the internal way or the topical way. Fluoride taken internally is done through drinking fluoridated water and eating food with fluoride. Topical fluoride, on the other hand, can be applied by a dental professional, and will give anti cavity protection.
