Menopause Is A Transition

By Sheila Rankins

It is a transition for women going through in their thirties and may last into their fifties or sixties. Menopause is a natural biological progression. Although its starting point brings in hormonal upheavals, physical and emotional modifications, it’s far removed from end of youth or sexuality of females. Menopause is the stopping of the month to month female menstrual cycle. Ladies who have not experienced a menstrual period for a year regarded post menopausal. Women in late or early 50′s experience menopause, women who have gone through the menopause are no longer fertile. The journey to menopause begins for women long before cessation of their menstrual cycle. It starts naturally when your ovaries start making less of estrogen and progesterone. Throughout reproductive years these hormones regulate monthly cycle of ovulation and menstruation. For most women, hormone production starts to decrease when they reach their thirties and continues to decline as they age. Since this procedure spans over decades peri-menopause precedes menopause. Throughout peri-menopause you start experiencing signs and symptoms through you are still ovulating. Hormonal levels rise and fall unevenly, you may encounter any or all of these signs and symptoms.

Signs and symptoms:

* Anxiety and fatigue

* Bloating headaches

* Heart palpitation

* Insomnia, irritability

* Reduced sex drive

* Mood swing, night sweats

* Urinary incontinence

* Weight gain, dry vagina.

Quite a list

By the time ladies attain menopause and stop menstruating altogether, acute difficulties linked with it are likely to disappear. Nevertheless, ladies become increasingly susceptible to serious health problems. More than the period, diminished supply of estrogen raises the likelihood of cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis and vaginal atrophy. Osteoporosis is a common problem ladies encounter post-menopause. Recent studies say soyabeans, chickpeas and other legumes contain phytoestrogens which help in tiding over menopausal signs and symptoms.
