Methods Used To Help Anxiety And Depression

You might have days or even a week where you feel down or blue. You may even come to say that you feel depressed but its the depression and anxiety that causes people to lose their way in life or see marriages fail or jobs lost because of it that really have it as an illness. Feeling blue and being depressed are in essence two very different things.

So rather than being sad for a few days after your girl dumps you what if everything is going fine for you in life? A nice house, a good job, no financial worries yet you are depressed or down, maybe you panic over nothing and getting anxious has begun to start to take you and your life over, this is when it really needs addressing.

Looking at them separately we know that depression means a person is feeling very low, they may not want to go to work, socialize or even commit to a marriage or relationship as much as they used to and this can cause them to lose the things in life that they love the most.

Anxiety however is a different illness and is treated in a different way. Some people who have anxiety also have panic attacks, this is where they feel consumed or scared by a situation or even another person. It might be that a place or person triggers them or it may come on with no notice at all. This can lead to other side effects like paranoia and high blood pressure.

Some may think that depression can be easily cured by various types of medication yet physicians are now often looking at other methods that will help the illness long term and not see it returning as soon as a course of medication is over with. Counseling and therapy is becoming more popular and is often replacing traditional methods.

Again, therapy is really a good tool for those who suffer with anxiety and especially for those who have the panic attacks as it can identify what triggers the attacks and diffuse them before they even happen which will bring the sufferer a lot of relief with no side effects.

There is something called cognitive behavior therapy that has started to be used more and more to treat these kinds of illnesses that has proven to be really effective. Especially for depression and anxiety, it looks at pathways and processes that bring the patient to feel that way in the first place.

Someone may think their depression is caused by their childhood or the way they were treated at school but using therapy they may work out that their unhappiness was caused by an ex or even their current partner and by working with and dealing with that they may feel that only then can they start to move on and free themselves from their illness for good.
