Try cutting down the number of cigarettes you smoke each day gradually. For example if you usually consume twenty a day then bring it down to fifteen per day for a week, and then ten a day for the next, and so on. A gradual withdrawal would also help you to reduce the cravings that are felt.
Where do you keep your cigarettes? If you are to quit smoking then do not carry them around with you. Leave them at home and out of sight. Even when you are watching TV or surfing the internet do not have a box of cigarettes within reach as the temptation will always be there to light up.
Are you aware of nicotine replacement therapy? This is a method in which you replace cigarettes with nicotine gum, or electronic cigarettes, that can still give you nicotine but do not have any of the other nasty substances.
You should never forget the cost of smoking. When giving up, keep to one side the money that you would normally have spent on cigarettes and then use this to treat yourself once in a while.
