Out With The Dentures, In With Dental Implants

By Ava Ward

Dental decay and gum disease has been on the rise in the past few years so there are many people who are either partially or completely toothless. They rely on oral prostheses to maintain function and aesthetics. It is a fact that these prostheses do not fit well and discomfit the patient even so this cannot be touted a substitute for natural teeth. These patients now become dental cripples and they visit dentist to dentist, trying to find some relief and comfort.

As people are able to become more economically and socially advanced, they become quite conscious toward their health and dental needs, thus demanding more effective treatment is what they do. Indeed, conventional dentistry was able to make a few changes that make dentures a bit comfortable however studies show that a vast majority of false teeth wearers still complain about discomfort and difficulty.

If you want to be able to smile, speak and eat with comfort and confidence once more, dental implants can solve your missing teeth woes. Maybe you encounter problems like your dentures no longer fitting as securely or comfortably as they once did, or that you need to hide from missing teeth, or perhaps, thanks to advance gum, problem that needed some dental treatment, you now have loose teeth. Dental implants are just what you need if these things make you feel insecure of yourself or your smile.

Technological advancements and dental materials and techniques have improved the success rate of implants, enabling many patients to enjoy comfort and confidence, in their oral health. These artificial dental implants are great natural tooth root substitutes. These directly are attached to the jawbone since they are made out of bio compatible matter. In dental terms this is called osseointegration. The implants are small anchors shaped like screws or cylinders. These jawbone insertions are able to perform the way natural tooth roots can. These implants are capable of withstanding strong biting force the way a healthy and natural tooth can.

Even with a big number of patients benefiting from dental implants, one should know that not everyone can have this. Good overall health, good oral and, most importantly, sufficient bone in the jaw such that the implant is supported enough are what the dental implant candidates must have. Equally important, a candidate must be able to go for regular dental checkups and is willing to commit to conscientious oral hygiene. Patients who are younger than 18 years should not consider implants.

These dental implants are much like how tooth roots support natural teeth only they support replacement. These are better alternatives to wobbly, clicking or painful false teeth that at times would even have gaps, making the wearer embarrassed. When systems among dental that were tested have been secured by accredited dentists, the success rate is well beyond 93 percent.

Dental implants cost way more than when obtaining a bridge or an ordinary denture. But then many patients, on the other hand, readily state that these implants are truly worth the money with the many advantages they bring in terms of look and comfort. A time investment consisting of 5 to 9 months from start to finished is required when one aims to have dental implants. Infection can occur with dental implants as with any surgical operation.

Right after the surgical phase, the jawbone would hold the implant in place strongly once these would attach to such implants. This bone attached to the implants remain in the jawbone which is situated under the tissues of one’s gums. After a healing period of three to six months, a brief second procedure is needed to expose the top of the implant. Small metal posts or cylinders are attached to the implant, projecting through the gums.
